7-Eleven looking for talent to join the team for new Colac store

18 September 2020

When 7-Eleven Colac opens in late November, store manager Cameron Gibson will be leading a team of about 10 people to provide 7-Eleven’s offer to Colac locals. 7-Eleven will start the recruitment process in late September for team members to join Mr Gibson to provide Colac locals with a great customer experience.

Mr Gibson, who has lived in the area since he was in high school, says that the company would love to see plenty of local applicants for the roles. Specific convenience and petrol experience aren’t required to build a career in the family owned Australian organisation.

“I had experience in fast food retail and had moved into an assistant manager role before I took the chance to join 7-Eleven. Joining 7-Eleven was a great opportunity to advance in my career and I received extensive training to ensure I felt confident to succeed. I have been able to progress quite quickly with 7-Eleven, it has opened doors for my career, and I feel it has the potential to provide that for others also,” Mr Gibson said.

“For our team members we provide extensive training to ensure people are set up for success on opening day so previous experience in convenience, petrol and retail isn’t a requirement. We look for candidates with good people skills who can focus on excellent service, who are committed to delivering high standards through our processes especially in store presentation and safety, and who want to be play an active role in delivering great results alongside their team,” Mr Gibson said.

“I am very excited to help bring 7-Eleven’s offer to Colac. The $1 Coffee, sandwiches and sushi are favourites though I think people will love being able to get themselves a treat like a Slurpee or Krispy Kreme Doughnut as well. Even more than the offer, being able to provide job opportunities in town, and help train the new team to perhaps start a career in retail themselves is something I am really looking forward to,” Mr Gibson concluded.

7-Eleven Australia Victorian State Manager, Marc Costabile said that the company was proud to be investing in Colac.

“We’re expanding our offer to new communities here in regional Victoria by leveraging our supply chain capability. We deliver fresh food into every single store in the network seven days a week, so Colac was a great opportunity for us as we expand in South West Victoria. The chance to invest in a new store to bring our offer to the Colac community is really exciting,” Mr Costabile said.

Thanks to 7-Eleven’s ongoing growth, Mr Costabile said the company offers opportunities for people to advance their careers.

“We have been sustainably growing over many years. This provides people with the chance to build their skills and grow in their careers. We’ve had many team members progress. A number have been promoted into store manager roles and from there have taken on larger store management roles or moved to our support office and field support teams. There are even a few people who have chosen to move from being store managers with our corporate network to own their own businesses by becoming a franchisee. We have opportunities and career path options for people who have great capability and who work hard to develop themselves. I’m excited to see the future talent that might start their retail careers with us at Colac,” Mr Costabile concluded.
