Career Journey:

In 2004 I married and migrated to Australia. Before that I had worked as a secretary for a domestic airline and then a few years later an executive secretary in the corporate sector in Sri Lanka. My husband started working for 7-Eleven with a very keen interest to invest in a franchise, I was also very supportive to start our own venture, but we had to plan many things for this to become a reality. Our main goals were to buy a house, have kids, and get my parents migrated so that the kids could be looked after while we ran the business.

This was a most exciting time for both of us! And together we managed to accomplish all of our goals. In 2011, we purchased 7-Eleven Narre Warren, soon the store will reach its eight year anniversary! Business is going very well!

What is the best thing about being a woman?

I take pride in being a wife, a mother, a sister, a business owner and a daughter who looks after their mother and father. Women can take on so many roles!

What inspires you?
I take inspiration from managing my time well and being able to fit more into the day.

What do you think are the biggest challenges for women when trying to move up or develop their careers?

For women to keep the right family and work balance while they develop their careers, this can be very challenging.

What does the theme of #balanceforbetter this International Women’s Day mean to you?

Balanceforbetter to me is not about the long term, it is something that can be implemented every hour, every day and every week.
